How Parent Line Can Help

Parent Line staff can provide counselling and support for parents, as well as parenting advice and information. We also refer callers to other services in their local area for ongoing support, or for issues that we are not able to help with, such as legal advice.

We can help parents to understand and deal with their children's behaviour, development and emotional needs during all stages of childhood and adolescence.  Our counsellors can also help parents with

  • managing their relationships with their children and other family members
  • reflecting on their parenting style
  • dealing with the pressure and stress of managing a family
  • adjusting to changes within families or in a child's development
  • information about community issues or local services
  • and much more.

Talking to one of our counsellors can

  • Give parents and carers the opportunity to discuss the inevitable challenges that they face in raising children.
  • Help parents and carers identify what they are already doing that works.
  • Assist in helping parents and carers understand how to develop family resilience (the ability to ‘bounce back’ from difficult times).
  • Give parents and carers the space to talk about some of their difficulties without judgement or criticism. We know that every parent has hard times.
  • Provide parents with information, parenting education, counselling and referral to services in their local area.
